NORMAS DE EDICIÓN DEL ANUARIO DE ESTUDIOS ATLÁNTICOS

 1. NORMAS GENERALES

2.6.1. Tipos de citas

a. Citas textuales

PUBLICATION NORMS FOR THE ANUARIO DE ESTUDIOS ATLÁNTICOS

1. GENERAL RULES

- The Anuario de Estudios Atlánticos (AEA) published uninterrupted since 1955, is a scientific journal that covers various subjects, which are structured around its three main themes: The Atlantic Ocean as a historical entity, The external projection of the Canary Islands and The Canary Islands in itself. The Anuario de Estudios Atlánticos is an Immediate Free Access magazine.

- The Anuario de Estudios Atlánticos only publishes works of all the sciences, fields and areas of knowledge referred to the Atlantic.

- The Anuario de Estudios Atlánticos only allows original works that have not been published, nor will they be published in other publications, regardless of the language in which they are edited, both partially and totally. It will therefore be necessary for the authors of the manuscripts to complete the Letter of Originality, in which they assert that their articles are not included in another publication, and the Letter of assignment of copyright of the manuscript to the Yearbook of Atlantic Studies for The disclosure of their work. The models of Originality Charter and Letter of assignment of copyright will be provided by the journal's management to authors who have submitted their proposals and whose articles have been accepted for publication.

- The Anuario de Estudios Atlánticos is published annually. The deadline for submitting proposals will end on May 31 of each year. The publication date of each new number will be in the month of January of the following year.

- The publication in the Anuario de Estudios Atlánticos is not subject to any remuneration. The publishing rights belong to the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, without prejudice to the use by authors of their works within the established academic channels (use in conferences, teaching, institutional repositions, personal webs ...)

2. RULES FOR THE WORKS

- The works must have a maximum extension of 72000 characters with spaces (approximately 30 pages), including figures, tables and references.

- The Anuario de Estudios Atlánticos admits works preferably in Spanish, Portuguese or English.

- The system of quotations and references is Anglo-Saxon; In our case, we take as the base model the sixth edition of the APA of 2010 with some precisions of which we inform in the corresponding chapters.

- The rules of writing and style are those that correspond to the standard Spanish standard that establish, from its panhispanic policy, the Real Academia Española (RAE) and the Asociación de Academias de la Lengua Española (ASALE) in the Orthography of the Spanish language (2010), in the New grammar of the Spanish language (2009-2011) and, in case of lack of prescription, in the Panhispanic Dictionary of doubts (2005).

2.1. Header data

- In the first page of the work the title of the work must be indicated in its original language in italics, bold and centered; And its translation into English in italics and centered. In no case should an endpoint be included in the title or in the subsequent headings.

- You will also send a summary in Spanish of the work that does not exceed 150 words and its English version (abstract), as well as a maximum of eight keywords also with their corresponding English translation (key words) in bold and followed by a colon. In these cases, only the capital letters are used after the colon and in words that by their nature are proper names (See the clarifications on the use of capital letters in the rules of style and updated style).

- If the language of the original text is not Spanish, neither English, title, abstract and key words will be presented in the original language along with its English and Spanish version.

- After the name of the author or authors of the work, a footnote should be included with an asterisk indicating the author's work center, complete postal address, electronic address and telephone number.

- Acknowledgments, if applicable, must be included in note 1.

2.2. Headers

- The headings of the different parts of the article should be differentiated, using, if appropriate, a hierarchy of sections adjusted to the proposed model without adding an end point:

1. CHAPTER TITLE

1.1. Title of epigraph

1.1.2. Title of subheading

2.3. Format

- The text will be presented without any format or indentation of the paragraphs (except for textual quotations of more than 40 words, which must be indented on the left), and a space of 1.5 in Times New Roman, in numbered pages without headings.

- The font size for the text will be 12 points and will decrease depending on whether it is textual quotations and titles of charts and graphs (11 points); And footnotes and fonts for charts and graphs (10 points).

2.4. Figures and tables

- The tables, graphs and maps will be numbered consecutively in the Arabic system.

- Include the titles, precise notes and sources used, which will be preferably original.

- They shall be inserted in the text, unless they form part of the appendix.

- The tables must be constructed with the function of tables of the word processor employed; The graphics, made with a spreadsheet application, should be attached in a separate file.

- Will be sent in digital format (jpg or tiff) with a minimum resolution of 300 ppp and unlocked. The photographs, which will be in black and white or in color, will be sent in digital format.

- The author (or authors) is obliged to cite the source of all graphic documentation, whatever its type, even if it's own elaboration. The magazine declines all responsibility that could be derived from the infringement of intellectual or commercial property rights.

2.5. Style

- The acronyms and abbreviations used should be those commonly accepted within the discipline on which the work is viewed. In any case, unless it is a term of general use in the common language, it is recommended that the first time the full term appears and in parentheses these reductions; From there, this formula must be used.

- Capital letters should be accentuated, the years of unpublished publication (eg 1980), Latin terms and foreign languages should be written in italics: in situ, software.

- When the author uses in the writing of the work some writing system that is not based on the Latin alphabet must accompany his work with the typographic sources used so that they can be delivered to the printing press in case of necessity.

- The use of bold will be avoided, if possible.

- For other spelling precisions and those relating to the use of italics and quotation marks, refer to the updated editorial and style standards provided by the magazine.

2.6. Quotes

- In the quotes system, the footnotes will be used instead of the parenthesis within the text.

- The quotes will provide information about the author, the year of publication and the pages, information that leads the reader to the references that should be recorded at the end of the document.

- These footnotes will indicate, in particular, the first surname of the author in capital letters (or both surnames in case the first is not sufficient for identification), the year of publication in parentheses and, if applicable , Page numbers or pages preceded by commas and p., or pp.

Examples: FONTANA (1973), pp. 125-131; GARCÍA SANZ (1980), p. 43.

2.6.1. Types of quotes

a. Textual Quotes

- As for textual quotations, they will be avoided if they are not necessary; If they are, it is recommended that they be short. If they are very long, please include them in the notes.

- The words or phrases omitted will be replaced by ellipses in brackets or, less frequently, in parentheses.

a.1. Quotations of less than 40 words

- When they contain less than 40 words, textual quotes must appear in the text, in round letters and in inverted commas («»).

a.2. Quotations of 40 words or more

- When they contain 40 words or more, they must appear in separate paragraph, in round letters, in size 11 and indented on the left.

b. Paraphrase Quotes

- The paraphrase quotes should only contain the information relative to the author and the year of publication of the work. Only pages will be included when the paraphrased idea is placed on a page or a page stretch in the work, but not when it is developed along the page.

2.6.2. Rules according to number of authors

- Two authors: they are quoted by the surname joined by "and" in Spanish, and by "&" in English.

- Between three and five authors: the first time they are all mentioned by the last name; Later, only the first is quoted and added "and others".

- Six or more authors: from the beginning is quoted by the surname of the first and is added "and others".

- Author corporate: the first time quotes the full name of the corporation and in parentheses the acronym. From now on it is mentioned only with the acronym.

2.7. References

- In the Yearbook, only the works mentioned in the text will be included in the list of references, instead of the bibliography, however much these works may have served as a foundation or may be useful.

- All authors cited in the text must match those of the end reference list; Therefore, an author who has not been cited in the text, and vice versa, should never be referenced.

- The list of references is organized in alphabetical order and each one must have French indentation.

- For the reference of numbers (numbers) or volumes (vol.) Only the Arabic numerals, and not the Roman ones, will be used exclusively.

2.7.1. Book

- Book with author

- In these cases it is only necessary to specify the country when the name of the city does not have a single referent or is a minor toponym in which case it is preferable to specify a greater toponymic reference.

- The author must state his complete postal address and e-mail address, and his telephone number so that the reception of the work is communicated to him and, if necessary, his acceptance by the editorial board.

4. EVALUATION SYSTEM

- The Management will send within 15 days from receipt of the manuscript acknowledgment of receipt to the author/s of the work.

- Once considered of scientific interest by the director or the writing board, the evaluation process will be carried out as follows:

- The magazine uses the system of evaluation by pairs or double blind. This process will be carried out by external evaluators, who will be specialists of the same academic status, and completely anonymous: the identity of both the author (s) and the evaluators (which will be at least two) will be preserved, Who will send their reports (following the model report provided by the magazine) to the address of the Anuario de Estudios Atlánticos indicating the suitability of the publication of the works received and, if necessary, the necessary corrections.

- The following assumptions can result from the evaluation process:

  • That both reports are favorable and recommend the publication of the article without any modification.

  • That both reports are negative and do not recommend the publication of the article.

  • That both, or any of the reports, even if favorable, recommend modifications (either content or form) so that they can be published in the Anuario de Estudios Atlánticos

- In the event of a discrepancy between the evaluators, a third party, with the same scientific characteristics as the previous ones, will be used, who will decide with their assessment the acceptance for the publication or not of the article.

- Once the two reports have been obtained, or in their case the three, the writing of the Journal will send them to the authors so that, within 15 days (counted from the date of submission), they return the corrected text according to the recommendations made in said evaluation.

- The acceptance of a manuscript for publication may be subject to the introduction of the modifications that the board considers pertinent.

- The editorial board, taking into account the reports of the evaluators, will resolve in a maximum of 3 months.

- The final version of the work will be sent by e-mail to the address of the magazine, with all the text, pictures and graphics included in a single file in Word format. The journal will send the authors the first proofs of the articles that have been accepted for publication.

- At the beginning of each article, the reception and acceptance dates will be included.

5. PREPARATION OF THE ORIGINALS

- Authors who wish to publish in the AEA will be able to submit their works in digital format, in a PC or compatible system, also adding the printed version if they so wish. In any case, the texts must be submitted without additional hand-made corrections. The digital version must correspond exactly with the copy delivered on paper.

6. CORRECTIONS PRINTING TESTS

- During the editing process, the authors of the articles admitted to the publication will receive a set of proofs of proof for its correction. The authors will have a maximum period of fifteen days to send corrections to the AEA. If more than one author, they will be sent to the first signer. These corrections refer mainly to printing errata or changes of ortho-typographic, grammatical and style. No modifications may be made to the text (adding or deleting paragraphs in the original) that significantly alter the typographic adjustment, except those recommended by the reviewer.
