Resumen

El objetivo de este trabajo consiste en profundizar en los significados de la democracia durante el Sexenio (1868-1873) a través de las aportaciones constitucionales del republicanismo español. En este sentido, tras una breve aproximación a los precedentes históricos del constitucionalismo republicano, el análisis comienza con una valoración de los principales problemas interpretativos que presenta la Constitución de 1869, la única que estuvo vigente durante la Primera República, a pesar de su naturaleza monárquica. A partir de este marco, se abordan las novedades que aportaron los proyectos constitucionales republicanos en 1872 y 1873.

 

The aim of this paper consists on going in depth the meanings of democracy during de historical period known as the “Sexenio” (1868-1873), through the contributions of Spanish republicanism. In this sense, after a brief approximation to the historical precedents of the republican constitutionalism, the analysis begins with an evaluation of the main interpretative problems that affects the Constitution of 1869, which, in spite of being a monarchical Constitution, was the only current supreme law that ruled the Spanish First Republic. From this frame, the novelties that the republican constitutional projects contributed are analysed.
